Who was Estelle Getty: Estelle Getty, better known as Sophia Petrillo, was the wise cracking mother of Dorothy Zbornak on The Golden Girls. Getty played a woman in her 80's... but in actuality she was younger than the actress who played her daughter.

Golden girls ran from 1985 - 1992 on NBC, winning numerous awards. Getty herself won both an Emmy and Golden Globe.
