Rocky and his friend, Frank Farrell, were travelling from Chicago to Des Moines, Iowa, trying to get home to celebrate his 46th birthday with his family.
The pilot of the Cessna 172, who didn't had much flight experience, tried to land in bad weather at a small airport outside Newton, Iowa. They crashed into a lone oak tree in the middle of a corn field. Rocky Marciano, Frank Farrell and the pilot died instantly.
Who was Rocky Marciano: One of the greatest boxers of all times. Heavyweight champion of the world (1952-1956) and member of the International Boxing Hall Of Fame. The only world champion that was able to retired without a defeat. His boxing record is 49-0, winning 43 by knockout.
