George Putnam
Born: 1914-07-14 - Died: 2008-09-12Cause of Death: Kidney Ailment
Death Summary: George Putnam, who had been dealing with a kidney ailment since December 2007, died in his sleep at the Chino Valley Medical Center. He was 94.
Who was George Putnam: Putnam was a famed television news reporter and talk show host in Los Angeles, California.
During his career he anchored at KTTV 11, KTLA 5, KCOP 13, and KHJ 9 (now known as KCAL 9). In addition to his salary, he was provided a Rolls Royce while at KTTV and KTLA. In 1975 he was replaced by news legend Hal Fishman.
Putnam carried his grudge against Fishman for many years; he even called him out on his radio show, TALKBACK with George Putnam, that Fishman had backstabbed him. The feelings must have been mutual, as when Fishman produced the KTLA’s 50th anniversary in 1997, no footage of Putnam was used… even though he had been the face of KTLA news throughout 60’s and 70’s.
For his contributions to the television industry, Putnam was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6372 Hollywood Blvd.
