Who was Hamilton Jordan: Jordan died on May 20, 2008 from mesothelioma. He had previously survived several other types of cancers including melanoma and prostate. He was 63 years old when he passed away. Jordan (pronounced his last name to rhyme with "burden" instead of "borden") was a key component during Jimmy Carter's white house run in the late 1970's, also serving as chief of staff in 1979 - 1980. He is fondly remembered for his shrewd political mind, but in 1976 it was a different story. He was a lightning rod for critics of the president. He was perceived as just some fun-loving kid, a "good ole boy". Rumors started flying about "criminal behavior", but after legal investigations no proof was ever found. Jordan would later call this a very painful time in his life. Later in his life he became the chief executive of the Association of Tennis Professionals.
