Who was Michael Pate: Pate was an Australian actor and writer who is best remembered for his roles on Gunsmoke, The Rifleman, Branded, The Virginian, Batman, Mission: Impossible, The Man from U.N.C.L.E, Get Smart, Rawhide to name a few.
Pate began breaking into films between 1946 and 1950. In 1949 he appeared in his first starring role in Sons of Matthew.
In 1963 he played the part of Arthur Reginald Evans in PT 109, the Australian coast watcher who helped rescue John F. Kennedy and his crew.
In 1979 Pate developed the screenplay for Tim from the novel by Colleen McCullough. The film would go on to star Mel Gibson and Piper Laurie. For his screenplay Pate won the Best Screenplay Award from the Australian Writers Guild.
Pate retired from the business in 2001.
