Sandy Allen
Born: 1955-06-18 - Died: 2008-08-13Cause of Death: Unknown
Death Summary: Sandra “Sandy” Elaine Allen was bedridden the last few years of her life due to her enormous stature. Her legs and back could not support her large frame. She spent the last few years of her life in a retirement center in Shelbyville, Indiana.
The Indianapolis Star reported Allen’s death early in the morning on August 13, 2008. It is unclear how she died at this time though.
Who was Sandy Allen: Allen was the second tallest living woman according to Guinness World Records at 7’ 7 ¼ inches.
Her abnormal stature was a result of a tumor in her pituitary gland that caused the uncontrollable release of the growth hormone. At the age of 22 she underwent surgery to stop the excessive growing. Without the surgery she would’ve continued to get taller and taller.
She appeared in a few films, one of which was the Academy Award winning “II Casanova di Federico Fellini”.
Allen also wrote a book, which was entitled “Cast A Giant Shadow”.

I have liked Sandy Allen from the first time I ever saw her on tv. If I could have been fortunate enough to know her I know that I would have liked to be friends with her. Sandy had all the qualities that I really admire in a person. I am very sad to hear of her passing.
I didnt know she died until I read an article of a 115 yr. old woman that died and they mentioned that Sandy Allen was in the same nursing home. Sorry to hear of her death.
I remember Sandy on Sally Jessie Rapheal Show a long time ago.
