Who was Sheb Wooley: Wooley was a character actor and singer songwriter. He is best known for this 1958 novelty hit “Purple People Eater”.
Wooley appeared in numerous shows from the 1950’s through the 1970’s, most notably of which was the western High Noon. He also appeared in The Outlaw Josey Wales and Giant. He co-starred with Pete Nolan in the television show Rawhide.
Along with his song Purple People Eater, Wooley also had a few other popular songs such as, That’s My Pa, the theme song for Hee Haw, Don’t Go Near the Eskimos, and Shaky Breaky Car.
Wooley is also considered by many to be the voice behind the famed Wilhelm scream, the scream can be heard in well over 130 movies.
