Wilt Chamberlain

Born: 1936-08-21 - Died: 1999-10-12
Cause of Death:
Heart Failure

Death Summary: Chamberlain died of congestive heart failure in Bel-Air, California at the age of 67.

He had a history of heart trouble for years before his death, and was even hospitalized for it in 1992 after it was discovered that he had an irregular heartbeat.

Before his death, doctors had been draining fluid from his legs for about a month. It had been building up as a direct result of his heart problems.

Who was Wilt Chamberlain: Wilton Norman Chamberlain was a professional basketball player who played for the Warriors, the 76ers, the Lakers, and even the Harlem Globetrotters.

At 7 foot 1 inch, many consider him to be one of the best basketball players in history.

After basketball, he became sort of a jack-of-all-trades. He played Volleyball and was even a board member of the International Volleyball Association.

He went into business and made money playing the stock market and from real estate investments. He also opened a nightclub in Harlem.

He did a little acting, appearing in Conan the Destroyer with Arnold Schwarzenegger. He also wrote a few books.

One piece of his legacy that is perhaps nearly as famous as his basketball career is his claim to have had sex with 20,000 women. According to Wikipedia, "For this to be true, he would have had to had sex with 1.14 women per day from the age of 15 up until the day of his death, a rate of almost eight women a week."
